President Joko Widodo inaugurated the largest solar power plant (PLTS) in Southeast Asia and the third largest in the world. The solar panels are floating on Cirata Reservoir, Purwakarta, West Java.
In his speech, Jokowi hopes that the PLTS with a capacity of 192 mega Watt peak can be maximized to 1,000 mega Watt peak. Additionally, Jokowi hopes that all the potential for new renewable energy in Indonesia can be utilized well.
He is confident that this is very possible to achieve because the technology has been created, one of which is wind power generation. “For example, in this solar power plant, there is also wind power generation. In the process, there are indeed weather challenges, but we can overcome them with a smart grid, even though the weather changes, the electricity remains stable,” said Jokowi, in a broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Thursday (9/11/2023).
As information, the project of building the Floating Solar Power Plant in Cirata Reservoir is a collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the State Electricity Company, and the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
