Sinar Mas Builds Solar Panel Manufacturing Plant in Kendal, Production to Start in 2024

Sinar Mas Group through PT Daya Sukses Makmur Selaras is building a solar panel cell manufacturing plant in Kawasan Industri Kendal, Central Java. This plant is slated for production run on 2024.

The Managing Director of Sinar Mas, Ferry Salman, states that the plant construction is initiated as a contribution of the corporation in the efforts of developing renewable energies, especially in solar energy.

This construction, said Ferry, is the result of cooperation between his company, PLN, Argo Surya Kencana, and Trina Solar

“On last August (2023), we partnered up in with PT. PLN, PT. Agro Surya Energi, and Trina Solar have set the cornerstone on the creation of the first integrated solar panel and solar cell manufacturing plant in Indonesia,” states Ferry in Sinar Mas’ 85 Years’ dialogue forum, Thursday (14/9/23)

Ferry states that this solar cell and solar panel manufacturing plant is targeted to run or in production of such items next year (2024). Later on, this manufacturing plant is expected to produce 1 GW of solar cells and solar panels on the first year of its run.

“This factory is hoped to operate in year 2024 with the initial production capacity of 1 gigawatt per year and will surely increase in its production capacity,” states Ferry.

It was reported earlier that Lokita Prasetya, the Vice President Director of PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA) that represents the management of Trina Mas Agra Indonesia, said that the main objective of this plant’s construction is to support the program of increasing renewable energy as targeted by the Government of Indonesia and PLN through providing solar cells and solar panels production in Indonesia that matches with the consumption rate of the country with a bankable brand.

“We are surely optimistic that, with the operation of this factory, it will support the joint efforts of the Indonesian nation in providing a clean and renewable source of energy. With the hopes of a production chain for solar panels in our country continuing to strengthen, and that our produced goods will become more competitive, with better quality. This is important as the chances for this market is still open,” states Lokita, during the placement of the cornerstone, Monday (28/8/23)

This solar panel and solar cell plant is expected to operate commercially on the 2nd quarter and the 3rd quarter of 2024. Each sides in this partnership plans to increase the production capacity of the manufacturing plant to up to 3 GW peak in the coming 2-3 years.
